					<description><![CDATA[My personal advice after learning Castilian Spanish in school, actually learning to speak Spanish with migrant farmworkers, seven years in Cali, Colombia (where I learned an entirely new Spanish vocabulary), and now 30 years back in California working with Hispanics from a dozen different countries-know your audience and setting before you try out new slang phrases. You don&#039;t want to come across as overly familiar or even vulgar. People often have different linguistic expectations of foreigners who speak Spanish, as in you might be better educated (in the formal sense) and they might be surprised if something unexpected is coming out of your mouth.
Cultural competency and linguistic competency are equally important.]]></description>
