Ways to use these Earth Day task cards

Teachers, are you looking for fun activities and ways to use these Earth Day words in Spanish in your classroom?

If so, below I will offer a variety of ways you can use these flashcards to interact with your students in the classroom (or at home).

• Print out multiple sets of these earth day cards in Spanish and work on sequences and patterns with your preschoolers!
• Browse through this selection of Earth Day books in Spanish and have your students identify words from the flashcards throughout a book.
• Keep a set of these flashcards in the car for a family fun game on long rides! Pull a flashcard and see who can spot the selected earth day Spanish vocabulary word from their seat first! Remember to keep it in Spanish!
• Create a word wall and place all of the Earth Day words on it. Have your child or student grab their favorite vocabulary word.
• A great option is to take your young children on one of my outdoor scavenger hunts to see if they can find any of these vocabulary words on their hunt.
• Play a game of Earth Day Go Fish! 
• The best way to memorize words is through memory games. Print off two sets and use them as a memory matching game. This activity is perfect for younger children to practice language development and memorization skills to connect the spoken word to the image. Make sure every time you flip over a card, you say the name of what’s on it!

• Play a fun game by having your child stand on the opposite side of the room as you, or even better outside. First, shuffle the flashcards. Then, lift a flashcard and show your child. Lastly, if they guess it right, they can take a step or hop forward! If they mess up, a step backward! Will they make it to where you are?
• You could play a bilingual game and say the version in English. Have your child repeat it in Spanish and vice versa.
• Place the flash cards face up on a table and see how fast your child can recognize the Spanish family vocabulary.
• Another great activity is to play Slapjack by placing all of the flashcards face down on a table. Say a word on the list and have your child flip the cards over until they find the correct Earth Day vocabulary word.
• Create a writing inspiration center by placing the cards in the center. Have your student write a story about one or a few of the words. 
• For reading practice, you could cut the cards in half and use them as puzzles by having your child use their little fingers to match the new words and images with their correct halves.

Since we speak in Spanish at home, I decided to create some back-to-school affirmations in Spanish to use in our home, and I want to share them with you today!

Why use these back-to-school affirmations in Spanish with your child?

A few months back, I created a set of 40 positive affirmations in Spanish for kids and they were such a big hit, not only in my household but with all of my awesome readers and buyers.

You might be asking, what are positive affirmations?

In that post, I go into more details about what positive affirmations are and their benefits, but to sum things up, positive affirmations are brief phrases that are thought or said aloud to boost self-confidence and rid the brain of negative thoughts.

They are verbal exercises that can be practiced daily or weekly to improve the mind and rid it of negative, self-sabotaging thoughts.

How can you use these back-to-school affirmations in Spanish to ease your child’s transition to school?

Below are some creative ways you could use these back-to-school affirmations in Spanish today:

• Print out your set of back-to-school affirmations in Spanish and hang them around your house. Every time you and your child approach an affirmation, read it and talk about it.
• Teachers, print them out and hang them around your classroom. Use them as a great translation activity with your Spanish students! Talk about ways they might have practiced that affirmation recently. Your children will be able to see all of the positive ways other students used their words throughout the school day.
• Read a back-to-school book in Spanish and spot any of these positive affirmations throughout the book.

• Each morning before school, pick an affirmation and talk about it while eating at the breakfast table. Provide your child with different scenarios that might occur during the school day and ways they can look at the situation in a positive light.

If you drive your child to school, use the drive as an opportunity to talk about an affirmation and again, present your child with situations that might occur in school, related to the affirmation. Talk about positive actions can they do in school today to spread joy and happiness.
• Place an affirmation on the bathroom mirror and have your child repeat the affirmation while getting ready in the morning.
• Print them out and add a magnet. Place a different affirmation on your fridge for a daily affirmation! Make it a daily routine to say that affirmation aloud throughout the day! This will help change your child’s thought patterns and boost self-esteem.

• You could also utilize them as writing practice by having your child copy the sentence into a notebook. I always learned best when writing things down!
• Be a role model by using these affirmations yourself and model them throughout the day for your child! You might be surprised by a surge of positivity, too!

Ways to use these family words in Spanish flashcards

Teachers, are you looking for fun ways to introduce family words in Spanish in your classroom?

If so, below I will offer a variety of ways you can use these flashcards to engage with your students in the classroom (or at home) and learn a little more about every student’s unique family.

• Pull out a flashcards and repeat the family word in Spanish. Have your students repeat back after you. Then, ask your students to share something about that family member in Spanish. Make sure they repeat the vocabulary word, for example, mi madre se llama Elena. Or, mi madre tiene pelo rubio. Etc.
  Here are some conversation starters. You could talk about the names of family members, people’s ages, family member’s physical appearance, etc. Here are some example sentences. Mi abuelo tiene 60 años. Mi hermana tiene pelo largo. Mi tío es muy alto.

When you subscribe to receive these free family words in Spanish, you will also have access to free coloring pages for mamá, papá, abuelo y abuelita!

• Practice the different grammar rules when learning these words. Talk about masculine nouns and feminine nouns and how adjectives will agree with the gender of each word. So, if you are talking about prima, an adjective will change at the end of the word. Mi prima es bonita. Make sure to go into singular form as well as the plural form. Asking about sibilings is a good way to work the plural form, ¿cuántos hermanos tienes? Yo tengo dos hermanos y una hermana.
• Also mention possessive adjectives, mi padre, mis padres, mi prima, mis primos. You could ask a student a question, for example, ¿Cuántos años tiene tu hermana? Mi hermana tiene 7 años. Then have the rest of the students repeat back the answer using the proper posessive adjective. Su hermana tiene siete años.
• You could read the book Un puñado de botones, a book about family diversity, and use the flashcards to talk about the different families in the book.
• Show your students how to make a family tree with these flashcards. Then, encourage your students to draw their own family tree.

• Have your students bring in a family picture. Then, draw a card from a pile and have your student point to their picture if that family member is featured in the picture.
• For a fun project, your students can make a collage with different family members and share their collage with the class. speaking only in Spanish, of course.

• Print out multiple sets of these family words in Spanish and work on sequences and patterns with your preschoolers!
• The best way to memorize words is to print off two sets and use them as a memory matching game. This activity is perfect for younger children to practice language development and memorization skills to connect the spoken word to the image. • Another fun way is to play Slapjack by placing all of the flashcards face down on a table. Say a word on the list and have your child flip the cards over until they find the correct beach word.
• For reading practice, you could cut the cards in half and use them as puzzles by having your child use their little fingers to match the new words and images with their correct halves.

• While you’re packing for a beach trip, place beach items around the house. Hand your child the flashcards and some tape and have them tape the correct flashcards to the correct objects. Make sure to repeat the beach words in Spanish for practice and memorization!
• A great way to encourage writing practice is to pick a beach word in Spanish and have them write down a memory with that item in a journal. Maybe they will remember throwing a pelota de playa with their uncle, or subiéndose a la silla de salvavidas when they were five-years-old.

First and foremost, print our your flashcards.

Next, cut them out and laminate them.

Then, you can use them in some fun ways, like the ways I will list below!

Have your child count each of the bugs in each box and mark the correct number of bugs. This activity will not only help with counting skills, but also with number recognition AND fine motor skills as your child colors in the circles.

Make sure after counting each bug, you have your child repeat the name of the bug as well. Repetition is GREAT for language learning.

• Page 6: El escape fine motor scissor or tracing practice.

With scissors, or if the page is laminated, a dry-erase marker, have your child color cut/trace the lines to help the bees escape from the garden.

Page 7: Deletreemos spelling and tracing.

Help your child hold a pencil correctly and have them trace the dashed letters to form the word of a bug. Once traced, sound out the letters and syllables of the words in Spanish.

Go on a nature scavenger hunt and see if your child can identify any of the bugs on the list.

Talk with your child out loud about all that you see in Spanish.

If you child spots any of the insects on the scavenger hunt, have them mark the box of that insect and identify the name.

• Lastly, page 8: Mi diario visual

Talk about the insects you and your child found on the scavenger hunt. Let them be creative and draw some of the bugs they identified in the boxes of their visual diary.

Once they have drawn their images, ask them to talk about the images with you and see if they can use their new bug vocabulary in Spanish!

• You could also play a fun game by having your child stand on the opposite side of the room as you, or even better outside. First, shuffle the flashcards. Then, lift a flashcard and show your child. Lastly, if they guess it right, they can take a step or hop forward! If they mess up, a step backward! Will they make it to where you are?
• You could play a bilingual game and say the version in English. Have your child repeat it in Spanish and vice versa.
• You could place the flashcards face up on a table and see how fast your child can recognize the word.
• Play Slapjack by placing all of the flashcards face down on a table. Say a word on the list and have your child flip the cards over until they find the correct card.
• Lastly, you could cut the cards in half and use them as puzzles by having your child match the words and images with their correct halves.

• Two print, laminate, and cut puzzles

Two PuzzlesPrint out the two puzzles and laminate them. Then, have your children use their fine motor skills to cut out the puzzle pieces and piece them back together!

• Conteo de animales

Practice numbers in Spanish by counting how many forest animals there are in each category. Then, write the number in the box. Finally, make sure to have your child repeat how many forest animals in complete Spanish sentences. Doing this will help with the memorization of the forest animals vocabulary words. 

• Animales del bosque scavenger hunt and art

Go on a nature walk and see if you can spot any of the animals on the list. 

Come back home and use water paint (recommended) or markers to color the animals they found or all animals and illustrations on the page.

• Two forest animal word tracing worksheets

Print out your fall word tracing worksheets in Spanish. Then, help your child hold a pencil correctly and have them trace the dashed letters to form a fall word.

• Another favorite activity is to print off two sets of flashcards and utilize them as a memory game. This is particularly beneficial for younger children, as it aids in language development and strengthens memorization skills by associating spoken words with corresponding images. Remember to verbalize the name of each card as you flip it over!
• For an engaging sorting activity, categorize the spring flashcards by themes such as animals/insects, weather, and clothing objects/accessories.
• To add a physical element, have your child stand on the opposite side of the room (or outdoors for added space). Shuffle the flashcards, reveal one to your child, and if they correctly guess it, they can take a step or hop forward. If incorrect, they take a step backward. Can they reach you?
• Introduce a bilingual twist by stating the word in English and having your child repeat it in Spanish, and vice versa.
• Place the flashcards face up on a table and challenge your child to quickly recognize and identify each word.
