Tips to use Valentine’s Day word scramble

Before engaging in this word scramble activity, it can be beneficial to familiarize children with the Valentine’s Day vocabulary words in Spanish.

There are various enjoyable ways to do this, such as exploring Valentine’s Day-themed picture books in Spanish or incorporating the words into other engaging activities like a Valentine’s Day-themed I Spy game or coloring pages.

Additionally, a Valentine’s Day bingo in Spanish can provide an interactive and entertaining opportunity to reinforce the vocabulary. By incorporating these activities, children can have fun while expanding their Spanish language skills and building their Valentine’s Day vocabulary.

This word scramble printable comes with two pages, the actual word scramble and the answer key.

For younger children, I recommend placing my set of 20 Valentine’s Day Flashcards in Spanish on the blackboard or around the room.

For more advanced children, give them a certain amount of time to complete the sheet before revealing the words they couldn’t figure out.

To make this activity even more fun, set a timer from 3-5 minutes and see which students or family members can figure out the words in the time allotted.

FREE Valentine Color By Number Worksheets in SPANISH: MATH

Bring these Valentine color by number worksheets in Spanish into your preschool, pre-K or Kindergarten classrooms and get your students working on Valentine’s Day number recognition in Spanish. This will make for a great activity during math centers!

There are seven number printables in this kit and each will work on a different set of numbers. Here are the numbers included on each sheet:

Page 1 works on the Spanish numbers 1 through 5.
Page 2 works on the Spanish numbers 7-11.
Page 3 works on the Spanish numbers 12-16.
Page 4 works on the Spanish numbers 17-21
Page 5 ranges from 0-50 by intervals of ten.
Page 6 works on numbers 5 to 50 in intervals of five.
Lastly, page 7 is a page with a random set of numbers.

Valentine’s DAY COLOR BY NUMBER IN SPANISH: Color word recognition

Unlike in my St. Patrick’s Day color by number pages in Spanish where the color code is represented by a crayon, these Valentine color by number worksheets are little bit trickier.

Instead of the crayon, the code has the color word in Spanish.

Why?

This will help your little ones begin to recognize the different color words in Spanish.

If your littles are new to learning the color words in Spanish, I recommend printing off a copy of my color flashcards in Spanish (these will be available in the Free Printable Spanish Library upon subscription, too.)

You can review the color words with your students beforehand. For additional help, you can hang or put them near your students as a guide when completing these color by number worksheets in Spanish.

Don’t worry, these Valentine color by number worksheets in Spanish only include the basic Spanish colors, unlike in the St. Patrick day ones where you will find light green or light blue, gray, etc.

VDAY COLOR BY NUMBER IN SPANISH: FINE MOTOR

Not only will your littles learn math by working on number recognition in Spanish, but they will also work on strengthening their fine motor skills as the color tiny sections of the mystery pictures in these pages.

What images will your students find on these pages?

They will find a variety of Valentine’s day images such as hearts, letters, candy, chocoalte and more!

This is a fun way for kids of all ages to enjoy some Valentine’s Day fun!

What art supplies should you use?

We like to use a variety of art supplies when working with our color by code worksheets.

Our go to is markers, but when we really want to get in the coloring zone, I will whip out the watercolor paints and we will go to town.

Watch as through each different art supply, your children use a different muscle in their little hands.

Furthermore, in these worksheets your children will learn some more Spanish vocabulary as they reveal the hidden pictures.

Pair this activity with the Valentine’s Day flashcards in Spanish and once your child has revealed the picture, have them say in Spanish what is in the picture? Is it el corazón, la carta, or los dulces?

Along with math and fine motor skills, this free printable Valentine’s Day color by number in Spanish will be a great mindfulness activity for your child.

It will also work on your student’s comprehension as they go through and figure out which color goes with each number.

HOW TO USE THESE WORKSHEETS IN YOUR CLASSROOM

I recommend downloading and printing off several copies for each student.

Start by introducing the color flashcards to your students, or by writing the basic Spanish color words on the board.

Then, work through one worksheet at a time and together as a group. Go through and identify the different Spanish numbers on the sheet.

Together go through and quietly fill in the correct colors. Let’s see if everyone’s color on the number sheets look the same!

Once your students get the hang of how the activity works, you can then hand out different sheets to the students and let them try the activity in small groups or individually.

Go around the room and encourage the students to keep conversations and practice all in Spanish to get the minority language flowing.

Holiday themed activities are a great way to entertain the kids while also getting them excited for the upcoming holiday. Using games like this Valentine’s Day I Spy in classrooms or at home can be super fun!

I created two versions of this Valentine’s Day I Spy for you, one with beautiful watercolor images and one in black and white. Both are completely free!

Each page is filled with Valentine’s Day-themed items including hearts, cupids, candies and more!

HOW TO PLAY VAlentine’s Day I SPY IN SPANISH

This Valentine’s Day I Spy in Spanish is super easy to play.

Print out as many copies as you would like and invite the kids to sit around the table.

Hand them one of the free Valentines Printable I Spys in Spanish and have them count the pictures that are in the box and write how many at the bottom of the page.

For the color version of this activity they can count the images by crossing them off with a writing utensil, or by placing a small object, like candy or legos, over each object.

For the black and white version, they can color in an image as they count.

BENEFITS OF PLAYING I SPY IN SPANISH

Not only will you children be entertained trying to find all of the different items in this fun Valentine’s Day activity, but they will be learning as well.

What learning goes on while kids are using these Valentine’s Day I Spy Worksheets in Spanish?

For starters, they are practicing memorization skills by memorizing Valentine’s day vocabulary words and numbers 0-10 in Spanish. Make sure to reward your child or students by keeping this activity exclusively in Spanish!

It also works on children’s math skills as they count and record how many of each item they are finding in the activity.

This Valentine’s Day I Spy is also a great activity to work on visual discrimination skills. It helps young children detect the differences between different objects, symbols and shapes.

Lastly, children work their fine motor skills as they color and count the different objects, and then practice writing the correct number of items they find in the activity.

So, not only is this activity super easy to set-up and entertaining to do, but it also has an educational component that will get your child’s brain and body working! This activity sheet will make learning fun this holiday season!

If you want this activity to last for more than one use, I recommend laminating them with laminator sheets. From there your child can color the different Valentine’s day objects with dry erase markers.

Then, store away and use for the following school year!

You could also throw a magnifying glass into the mix to help younger kids identify the objects.

Then, when they are done, you can wipe in clean and store it away in your classroom for future class parties!

This tic tac toe game is a super fun and easy Valentine’s Day activity that will keep your children or students engaged for a while as they battle out and try to get three of the same color hearts in a row!

HOW DO YOU PLAY THIS Valentine’s Tic Tac Toe?

This free printable Valentines day tic tac toe game is super easy to play. Are you ready to have so much fun?

Just in case you don’t k now how to play this classic game, below are a list of steps on how to play.

Each card has a 3X3 grid on it where the red and pink hearts will be placed on the tic tac toe Valentine card.
Have each player select which color heart game pieces they want to use, either pink or red.
Next, have them play rock paper scissors to figure out who will go first. For multiple games, the winner can start.
The winner of rock paper scissors can place their first pink or red heart on the board game.
Next, the second player can play their heart.
Keep going until a player gets three hearts in a row, or you run out of spaces and possibilities to play.
Keep playing to see who will be the tic tac toe champion this Valentine’s Day!

Does Latin America Celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Did you know that not all Latin American countries celebrate Valentine’s Day on February 14th?

While most of the northern hemisphere— United States, Canada, Mexico and even countries like Guatemala and Peru celebrate Valentine’s Day on February 14th, other Latin American countries celebrate the day of love on different dates.

Some countries even celebrate their loved ones on one day, and friends on another, such as Argentina, which celebrates lovers on February 14th, and friends on July 7th. Interesting huh?

In Colombia, el Día del Amor y La Amistad is celebrated in on September 16th. According to Canal Trece, this is because in September, there is no other big holiday to celebrate which is why the month of September was selected to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Interesting huh? They also play a fun game of “amigo secreto,” a secret Santa of sorts where they choose from a name and provide small gifts for their chosen person.

This might be a fun activity to add in the classroom, but instead of gifts, a drawing or an encouraging note of sorts. Food for thoughts?

Some countries that do celebrate Valentine’s Day on February 14th are: Mexico, Guatemala, Venezuela, Uruguay, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panamá, Nicaragua, Cuba and Costa Rica.

To sum up this section, since we are learning a little more about celebrating a happy Valentine’s Day in Spanish, it’s important to be mindful that not everyone might celebrate this holiday like celebrated traditionally in the U.S.

See if your child can identify any of the Valentine’s Day vocabulary in your Valentine’s Day book in Spanish selection.
The best ways to memorize words is to print off two sets and use them as a memory matching game.
Play a fun game by having your child stand on the opposite side of the room as you, or even better outside. First, shuffle the flashcards. Then, lift a flashcard and show your child. Lastly, if they guess it right, they can take a step or hop forward! If they mess up, a step backward! Will they make it to where you are?
You could play a bilingual game and say the version in English. Have your child repeat it in Spanish and vice versa.
Place the flashcards face up on a table and see how fast your child can recognize the Spanish space vocabulary.
Another fun way is to play Slapjack by placing all of the flashcards face down on a table. Say a word on the list and have your child flip the cards over until they find the correct space vocabulary word.

These Valentine’s Day cards can also use them as flashcards in the following ways:

Create a print rich envoirnment by placing these around the house. Add adhesive magnets to the back of the laminated flashcards and hang them on your fridge or washer.
Print out multiple sets and work on sequences and patterns with your preschoolers!
One of my favorite activities is to print off two sets and use them as a memory game. This activity is perfect for younger children to practice language development and memorization skills to connect the spoken word to the image. Make sure every time you flip over a card, you say the name of what’s on it!
You could also play a fun game by having your child stand on the opposite side of the room as you, or even better outside. First, shuffle the flashcards. Then, lift a flashcard and show your child. Lastly, if they guess it right, they can take a step or hop forward! If they mess up, a step backward! Will they make it to where you are?
You could play a bilingual game and say the version in English. Have your child repeat it in Spanish and vice versa.
You could place the flashcards face up on a table and see how fast your child can recognize the word.
Play Slapjack by placing all of the flashcards face down on a table. Say a word on the list and have your child flip the cards over until they find the correct card.
Lastly, you could cut the cards in half and use them as puzzles by having your child match the words and images with their correct halves.

You will also receive six Bingo Enamorado playing cards to go along with the vocabulary cards.

How to Play this Valentine’s Day Bingo game in Spanish?

This game is super straightforward to play!

Once you print off your Valentine’s Day vocabulary cards and bingo sheets, I recommend laminating them so you can save them for future use!

Then, cut out the laminated cards.

Once the winter vocabulary cards are cut out, place the cards face down in a pile or in random order.

Give each player a bingo sheet.

Then in order (youngest to oldest/ clockwise/ however you choose) pick up a card from the pile. Have the person picking up the card say what card they have in Spanish.

Lastly, all players with the selected vocabulary card on their bingo sheet, should mark it with a bingo chip.

The first player to fill their card wins!

Tips to get maximum language use from this Valentine’s Day Bingo game in Spanish!

To make sure you get the absolute most language use out of this Bingo game, state the rule that the family is only allowed to speak in Spanish!
If the child flips a card and does not know the word of the image on the card, help them out with the pronunciation.

Then, you can ask questions or say phrases such as:

“¿Quién tiene el ____? “

“¡Solamente mamá tiene la ______!”

“¡Wau, todos temos los ___!”

Repeating phrases like this to include the vocabulary word with help the new Spanish vocabulary stick!

Allow your child sufficient time to process the card that has been chosen, and to identify the object on their card. Try not to interject or speed up their finding process. Doing so might confuse the child or discourage participation.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s time to start learning the language of love through some good, old-fashioned children’s literature, starting with these 15 Valentine’s Day picture books in Spanish.

Even better, how about learning about love, side-by-side with your child in a romance language, Spanish.

Don’t disregard this post if you—mom, dad, or caretaker, do not speak Spanish. I am not a native speaker of Spanish myself, however, I know the many benefits that being bilingual can have on a child linguistically, culturally, and socially. That is why I have made it my purpose to teach my son, Lennox, Spanish first.

Valentine’s Day Heart Wreath Photo Frame

Inside: How to make an easy DIY Valentine’s Day heart wreath photo frame craft for your loved ones this Valentine’s Day.

This craft is super easy to make and in this tutorial I even encourage you to get the kids involved!

After you finish this craft, you can use it as a cute Valentine’s Day decoration in your house. Or, give if as a gift to those special someones in your life!

What you will need to make this Valentine’s Day Heart Wreath Photo Frame

8.5” and/or 12” Styrofoam Hearts
Antique Yarn Bee Tocco di Lana Yarn
Any color of your choosing. I decided to go with Red and White.
Cardstock
Felt & Foam Glue
Scissors
Tape and/or Elmer’s Glue Stick
Heart Sequins
¼” Pom Poms

Instructions:

Step one: prepare the yarn, and pick a place to start

Pick a spot on the heart where you want to begin and tie a knot around the styrofoam heart.

Then, roll out your yarn, and—depending on the size of your heart (I cut off five ft for my 12” heart, and three for my 8.5’) cut off a 3-5 foot strip. This yarn is wooly and luscious, so don’t feel worried about cutting it too short or long. If you need to add more, it blends in very beautifully.

With that being said, definitely cut off a strip of yarn unless you want to bear the hassle of squeezing a soccer-sized yarn ball through your styrofoam heart the entire process. Also, if you have a child helping you with the craft, they are going to think it’s an actual ball and get totally distracted from your activity.

Once you cut your yarn, take the end of the yarn (not the side knotted to the styrofoam heart) and roll it around your hand into a smaller ball for easier maneuvering during your wrapping process.

Step two: If you are doing this craft with your child, let them explore

After I let Lennox “wrap” his heart to his little heart’s finest, I finished them myself for a “Pinterested” finish.

*Side note: If doing this activity with your child, it is so important not to push a perfect expectation.

What I have learned most in Lennox’s preschool, and loose parts play is that expecting unmeasurable outcomes, or outcomes at all, interferes with a child’s creativity.

Now aware of this interference, I allowed Lennox to explore the textures of the yarn and practice his fine motor skills through the weaving and wrapping of the yarn. Once he lost interest, I continued on to step three.

Step three: Wrap your heart

Apply two-inch lines of the Felt & Foam Glue up/down —on the inside and outside of the heart—the section of the heart your are wrapping. Wrap your yarn neatly around the styrofoam heart. Repeat until you get to the middle points and bottom points.

Once you get to the middle and bottom of the heart, apply extra glue to make sure the yarn stays in place. It takes about an hour for the glue to set. After you finish, if there are spots of the styrofoam heart not covered, cut small pieces of yarn and patch them in with the glue. As I mentioned earlier, they will fit right in.

*If you yarn gets glue in an unwanted area, no frets. We will be glamming it up shortly.

At the bottom point of the heart, make sure to use extra glue to hold the yarn in place. It will require some patching at the end, which I recommend over my technique of wrapping too many times, as you can see below.

Regardless, if you wrap too many times, or if you patch, you will be adding glitz on top so it will mask the bulkiness.

I don’t know about you, but I love, love, love the look of this beautiful wool yarn. I can’t wait to explore with it even more.

Step four: Glam it up

This was Lennox’s favorite part, because we have done this before in previous crafts.

What I do, is place dots of the Felt & Foam Glue all over the heart, and allow Lennox to place the decorations on the spots.

Step five: Let your heart dry for a few hours.

I let mine sit overnight so that the yarn, sequins and pom poms could become best friends. However, after a couple of hours, your heart should be ready for step six.

Step six: Make the backing for your collage

I took two pieces of card stock and laid them on the backside of the heart. I traced the outer edges of the heart to ensure that I had enough room to attach it.

Then, I cut it out with scissors and double-checked that I traced it correctly and with enough room to attach it to the back of the heart wreath.

Step seven: Pick out photos and collage them

Lennox and I went through our photo collection and picked out pictures with Carlos and him. Then, during his nap time (I don’t like doing things with sharp scissors around him), I cut out their images and collaged them on the cut-out hearts.

* Don’t make my mistake and try to collage to the outer edges of the hearts. The wool yarn takes up a lot of the visual, so don’t worry about covering the entirety of the heart’s surface. As you can see in the final result, some of my pictures are hard to see. Luckily I did this craft a month and a half early so I can fix it!!!!

Step eight: Attach your collaged cardstock to the heart wreath.

Last but not least, using the Felt & Foam Glue, trace the outer edges of the heart. If you are worried about ruining your pictures, try to apply the glue only onto the cardstock. If you have duplicated or can print, don’t worry about the glue getting on your photos. Once you have outlined the majority of the heart, attach it carefully to the heart wreath.

There you have it, a beautiful DIY Heart Wreath Photo Collage.

Not only have you created a beautiful product, but you got your kiddos involved. Whoever is on the receiving side of this gift will be more than honored. So much more thought goes into DIY gifts over store-bought gifts, all while creating wonderful family memories.
